We’re over a week into January – how goes your 2018 reading?
Many people make resolutions going into the new year, and I’ve set myself some. I’ve registered to give blood and my first appointment rolls around on January 12th (wish me luck). That’s my main resolution; to maintain regular donations throughout the year and into the future.
When it comes to reading, I’m terrible when it comes to buying books and adding them to an ever-increasing to-be-read pile. I want to try to utilise my local library more and decrease the TBR pile! Yep, this means buying less books. Unfortunately, this hasn’t gone to plan so well. I was halfway through Pierce Brown’s Golden Son when I decided to order Morning Star and pre-order a signed copy of Iron Gold. These will however have to wait, as I got gifted The Name of the Wind by Patrick Rothfuss for Christmas… so that’s my current read. I’m hoping to tackle more classic novels, and George Orwell’s 1984 will be the first, having inherited a copy from my Grandad’s collection.
I also ordered Batman: Nightcrawler by Marie Lu, written as part of Penguin’s DC Icons series. I reviewed Wonder Woman: Warbringer for Fantasy Faction here; be sure to check it out!
That’s it for my new book buys… hopefully for a while.
Between attempting to read more often, I’ve got two NaNoWriMo projects that I need to finish. The most recent didn’t even make it to 50,000 words after my personal life put some blockades in the way. My first draft from the year before, my sci-fi/fantasy novel, needs a full edit. I’m hoping that both of these will be somewhere that I’m comfortable with by the end of the year. I’m not certain yet whether I’ll participate in NaNoWriMo this year… time will tell.
Let me know in the comments whether you’ve made any resolutions for this year, especially if they involve reading or writing. Also let me know what books you got for Christmas… and what classic novels you’d recommend for me to read.
